The Future of Wellness and Movement

The Future of Wellness and Movement

As the world strives for wellness, a definition of health serves as a helpful reminder of what underpins this global megatrend. I rather like the The National Institute of Health's (NIH) version:

"a comprehensive state of well-being, often described as a functional, dynamic balance of physical, mental, and social health that enables a person to live a full life"

The most important part of that definition is balance and how every facet of health is inter-linked. Wellness is appearing in new ways and in new places all the time. For us millennials and the Gen Zers, wellness is now a daily, individual practice rather than a set of occasional activities. It is and will continue to be a mainstream lifestyle priority.

There is little doubt that technology has enhanced our lives. Despite its lauded convenience, technology has caused an imblalance; decreasing levels of physical activity, increasing stress, anxiety, and depression, disrupting our sleep and leaving many of us feeling disconnected. The future of wellness is to address this imbalance.

The benefits of movement are well documented. Millennials and Gen Zers know full well that physical activity forms the bedrock of wellness. At REAL we fight for enhanced wellbeing through physical action and it is the cascade of mental, emotional and social benefits derived from movement that truly enhances overall wellbeing.

As automation and artificial intelligence (AI) is also appearing in new ways and new places all the time - The future of wellness lies in understanding and nurturing what it means to be human. Our physicality, mentality and emotions cannot be automated.

Our physicality reminds us that we live in our bodies, renewing our sense of self and giving us a sense of control in the face of burnout, climate and economic anxiety, social media overuse, or some combination of these factors. Movement is simply non negotiable for our mental, emotional and social health.

Finally, the biggest areas of future growth will span wellness experiences (e.g. travel) and in-person events, plus mental health. Mental health encapsulates a lot, but can be honed mainly on practising mindfullness, sleep and socialsiing. Movement straddles and supports every facet of experience, socialising, connection and improving mental health, including sleep.

At its simplest, REAL Movement Club is a blend of bodyweight strength and cardio, done outdoors. But it is more than that - It is a chance to step away from the noise. To move, connect, and form part of something meaningful. It’s a space to celebrate the power of movement and wellness, together.
