MOVEMENT REGULATES HIGH PERFORMERS

MOVEMENT REGULATES HIGH PERFORMERS

When did you last see a fat CEO?

With exceptions to any rule, the point is that running a business requires a lot of energy and we know well enough that physical health is the foundation to anything performative in the long run. Whether you're a founder or a salaried employee, we all work harder than ever because technology has only made our lives faster and the competiton for resources fiercer. Technology and all the convenience that it brings only means we can get more done in a day than ever before. We are regularly in a state of high alert, with our bodies primed for action, cortisol running through our veins, an elevated heart rate and increased blood pressure, yet the majority of us remain passive and sedentary. This is unsustaibale for the human body without long-term deleterious consequences.

I doubt that anyone reading this has experienced something revelatory thus far, but the point is that all learned and aspirational people now have an antidote to the modern status quo. A high-functioning, autonomous individual today, will have a rotuine that combats the hours upon hours we might spend in a state of extreme readiness. Among the myriad of ways to soothe stress and anxiety in our day-&-age, movement is the most fundamental and effective. Movement takes us into our bodies, away from daily psychological distractions and gives us space to declutter - to see things more clearly. Time away from the tyranny of modern life lightens our cognitive load and boosts our mental acuity.

Time is a modern luxury. But time spent suspended in the fullness of felt experiene is the greatest luxury - we are present. Presence is the pinnacle of wellness and modern luxury.

Regular, structured movement brings huge physiological and phsycological benefits. Exericse builds an efficient and effective body. This is the basis for a well-managed and balanced state of mind. Movement helps us combat stress, it regulates our emotions and renews our sense of self. It stregthens our immune system, it helps us sleep (get to sleep and stay asleep), manages our metabolism, brings us energy and resolve.

Movement is simply non-negotiable for high-performers. High performance is unachievable without movement and exercise.
